A cupboard having a frame 3 for mounting a door, a hole 17 passing through the frame for mounting a soft close system wherein a cap 5 is inserted into the hole from the rear of the frame, inside the cupboard, and extending beyond the front of the frame, the cap having a rear portion prevented from passing through the hole, preferable by a flange 15 of greater width that the hole, the system including a biasing mechanism, preferable an hydraulic piston 11, attached inside the cupboard behind the frame exerting a force on the cap to urge it into the hole. When a door, attached to the cupboard is closed, the rear of the door contacts the portion of the cap extending from the hole and compressing the biasing mechanism, cushioning the door closure. The hydraulic piston is preferably concealed in a notch 19 in a shelving support rack 9 inside the cupboard. The cap can be interchangeable allowing the same underlying biasing mechanism to be used on multiple designs of cupboard, wherein the cap is chosen to match the material/finish of the frame for improved aesthetics. |
