Class 82(1) [Also in Group XXXVI] In the production of a positive plate for silver-zinc batteries silver powder is sintered to form a plate or plaque, a silver conducting member 14 is applied to the plate and the whole compressed to consolidate the plate and embed the conducting member therein. The plaque may be subdivided into smaller plates 12 before embedding conductors 14 in each of the latter. Sintering is effected at 1000‹ to 1400‹F., preferably above 1250‹F.; the Ag powder particle size may range from that passing a 50 mesh (U.S. standard) screen to that passing 325 mesh. The conductor is made with a lug 15 of twisted Ag wires; whilst compressions of 0.5 to 3 tons/sq. inch, preferably about 1 ton/sq. inch, are employed.
