[Also in Group XXIII] In the sealing of glass to glass or metal the parts that are to be sealed are caused to adhere to one another temporarily (e.g. during transporting to the sealing apparatus and to prevent relative movement therein) by coating them with a polybutene. This is burnt off as the glass is heated to the softening temperature at which the permanent sealing takes place. The invention is .described with special reference, inter alia, to the sealing of the metal eyelet of the vent opening in a double glazing unit to an intermediate glass in the opening. Powdered glass frit may be added to the polybutene. Polybutenes having a molecular weight between 300 and 15000 are particularly referred to.</p> |
