A steering apparatus 1, for example a car steering wheel, includes a grip core (6, Figure 2) and a rim part 7. The core has a longitudinally substantially constant cross-sectional area, and may be steel or magnesium. Rim part 7 covers the core and is moulded by foaming a material liquid, for example polyurethane, in a mould 11, 12. A first portion of the rim part 7, for example over a spacer 8 covering an arc of 90 degrees, has smaller cross-sectional area than a second portion of rim part 7. Spacer 8 may comprise two parts of ABS plastic or magnesium. Mould 11, 12 includes a vent opening 10 facing the first portion and a material liquid infusion opening 9 facing the second portion. The material liquid is infused into the mold 11, 12 through the material liquid infusion opening 9 and can flow toward vent opening 10. |
