Peptide and protein biomarkers for type 1 diabetes mellitus

A method for identifying persons with increased risk of developing type 1 diabetes mellitus, or having type I diabetes mellitus, utilizing selected biomarkers described herein either alone or in combination. The present disclosure allows for broad based, reliable, screening of large population bases. Also provided are arrays and kits that can be used to perform such methods.

1. A method of detecting peptides in a human blood sample, comprising:
determining a quantity of at least eight peptides selected from the group consisting of the amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 23, 24, 25, 37, 38, 39, 40, 41, 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, and 52 in the blood sample obtained from the human, wherein at least one of the eight peptides consists of the amino acid sequence shown in SEQ ID NO: 25, 38, 39, 40, or 50; and comparing the quantity of the at least eight peptides to a control representing expression for each of the at least eight peptides expected in a subject who does not have type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM); and determining if there is differential expression of the at least eight peptides between the blood sample and the control.
