The present invention relates to a device and a method for transmitting packet data. The objective of the present invention is to provide a device and a method for transmitting packet data which can remove the necessity of transmitting receivable packet size information from a receiver to a transmitter to receive packet data by adjusting the size of the packet data depending on whether there is a response of the receiver after transmitting the packet data of a preset size to the receiver. To achieve the objective of the present invention, the device for transmitting packet data comprises a packet data transmitting unit which transmits packet data to a receiver; a response message receiving unit which receives a response message to the packet data from the receiver; a packet size adjusting unit which adjusts the size of the packet data; and a control unit which controls the packet data transmitting unit to transmit the packet data of the preset size to the receiver and controls the packet size adjusting unit to reduce the size of the packet data when the response message to the packet data is not received by the response message receiving unit.
