The pump (2) has a body defining an interior space to receive fluid and including a compression chamber, and fluid inlet and fluid outlet in the compression chamber. A piston (7) moves in the chamber. A transmission system (9) transmits the movement of cams (3, 4) to the piston, where the system is configured to vary a value of cubic capacity of the pump. Faces (12, 14) of the pump are configured to interact with the cam and to be moved by the cam during interaction of the portion with the cam. The system is configured to vary a piston stroke in a continuous manner. An independent claim is also included for a pump and cam assembly.
