The motor vehicle has a water arrester device for lateral water flowing off from a windshield (2) of the motor vehicle in the direction of an A-column (4). A covering (30) is provided at the A-column, which is pivoted about an axis (34) between a rest position and an active position by an adjusting device. The axis extends parallel to longitudinal direction of the A-column. The axis extends in the edge area of the A-column, where the edge area is adjacent to the windshield. The A-column has a water arrestor strip (20) at its edge area facing away from the windshield. The water arrestor strip extends along a portion of its height extension. An independent claim is included for a method for controlling a water arrester device for a motor vehicle.
