A mobile terminal (101) searches connection-history information (110) for entries that contain area-identifying information corresponding to a base station (BS) and network-identifying information corresponding to an access point (AP) to which the mobile terminal (101) is currently connected but contain different access-point-identifying information. If a plurality of entries are not found, the mobile terminal (101) does not scan for an access point (AP) to serve as a handover destination. However, if a plurality of entries are found, the mobile terminal (101) starts scanning for an access point (AP) to serve as a handover destination.
