873,820. Disc record players. BRAUN, E., and BRAUN, A. Nov. 3, 1959 [Sept. 23, 1959], No. 37236/59. Class 40 (2). A disc record player transduces the under side of magnetic or other records. In one embodiment, a portable gramophone carries 7-inch records on a turntable 4 frictionally driven by a pivoted motor 8, a pick-up 38 carrying a stylus 40 rising through an aperture 12 in the deck 1 when the edge 48 of a slide member 13 is withdrawn from engagement with a pick-up guide 49 by the knob 47. The pick-up arm comprises a pair of flat strips 32, 33 of which only 33 is movable vertically, record pressure being produced by a spring 34. When the slide 13 is shut, the downward excursion of the arm 33 is limited by a stirrup 39 and the pick-up is then further lowered about a pin 37, against the action of a relatively strong torsion spring 43. This arrangement makes available a space 50 usable for batteries in portable equipment. Cams (Fig. 4, not shown) on the underside of the slide 13 cooperate with levers to reset the pick-up and switch the motor. |
