Aliphatic or aryl-aliphatic conjugated diolefins are subjected to the action of ionizing radiations or to bombardment by accelerated electrons, at a temperature below 0 DEG C. so that the speed of polymerization is proportional to the first power of the radiation intensity. The diolefins may be in solution in a polar chlorinated solvent, e.g. methylene chloride and dichloro-ethane. Betarays, gamma-rays and cobalt 60 are specified while specified diolefins are butadiene and isoprene. |
