903,055. Fluid bearings. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. June 27, 1960 [July 7, 1959], No. 22458/60. Class 12 (1). A fluid bearing assembly comprises a preferably fixed bearing 2, and a rotatable shaft 1, the bearing having grooves 3a, 3b, at each end to oppose the flow of fluid. The shaft is supported in the bearing by the fluid, the pressure of which is maximum at plane OA, and minimum at plane OB, and the pressure is maintained at the ends of the bearing by forming the grooves with circular arcs a, b, preferably axially staggered. Fluid passing into the low-pressure region is circulated by the shaft and moves along to the ends of the bearing and leaks out of the latter, but due to the shape of the grooves, this leak-off is retarded, thus increasing the fluid pressure at the ends. |
