The can 1 of a nuclear reactor fuel element is provided with helical fins 5 and axial baffles 7 which are fitted into slots cut into the fins. The baffles are provided with supports 8 to prevent circumferential and radial movement and a locking rim, 10 to prevent axial movement. The ring engages the baffles at the slot 12 by the projections 11 and the fins 5 by inwardly projecting teeth 10a. In modifications, not shown, the supports 8 may be of a square section and the axial locking is effected either by stops at each end of the element which engage the ends of the baffles or by a ring, similar to 10, which engages a slot in each baffle.
