In a carton of the kind shown made from paper or card coated with thermoplastic material and being openable to form a pouring spout, portions 9 are treated to reduce or destroy the adhesive action of the coating to ensure easy release of the folded tuck surface when forming the spout. Preferably, the lining is of polyethylene or polyvinylidene chloride. Heat radiation or gamma radiation may be used to eliminate the adhesive effect or the chemical action of a solvent such as tetrahydrofurane or acetone may be utilised. Alternatively sulphuric acid may be used. As a further alternative, the thermoplastic layer can be covered with a silicone emulsion or lacquer or polytetrafluorethylene can be applied, in these instances a hard layer is formed over the adhesive. |
