Carbamimidothioic acid esters of formula (I) and 2-nitro-N-[4-(pyridin-4-ylamino)phenyl]-4-(quinolin-4-ylamino)benzamide are used for the treatment of influenza, and for the inhibition of a viral RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. Formulae (I), (II).

n is 1-6; each X is independently S, NR, or O; Z may be 1-3 substituents, each of which is independently selected from the group consisting of —C(O)NR2, —C1-4-alkyl-C(O)NR2, —C(O)OR, —C1-4-alkyl-C(O)OR, —NR2, —C1-4-alkyl-NR2, —NRC(O)R, —C1-4-alkyl-NRC(O)R, —C(O)C1-4-alkyl, —C1-4-alkyl-C(O)C1-4-alkyl, —OR, —C1-4-alkyl-OR, O—C1-4-alkyl-OR, —S(O)2—C1-4-alkyl, —S(O)2—NR2, —CF3, C1-4-alkyl-CF3, C(O)CF3, C(O)C1-4-alkyl-CF3, and R; and each R is independently H or C1-4-alkyl;or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, solvent, or hydrate thereof.
