Method for controlling a hybrid vehicle comprising an internal combustion engine (4) and electric motors (7, 8) each one coupled to one wheel (9, 10) of the rear axle set via a coupling device (12, 13) and an electronic control unit connected to sensors, to means of selecting a mode of propulsion and to the internal combustion engine (4) and to the electric motors (7, 8). The method comprises the following steps: depending on the driving conditions of the vehicle and depending on the mode of propulsion chosen, - the coupling devices (12, 13) are controlled, - operation of the internal combustion engine (4) and of the electric motors (7, 8) is controlled, and - the torque of the internal combustion engine (4) and of the electric motors (7, 8) is controlled.
