PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and method for performing recording with high density by using the characteristics of fullerene molecules of repeating polymerization and depolymerization by given energy.SOLUTION: A recording device include: means for locally applying a negative voltage with predetermined strength to a recording medium having a fullerene molecule multilayer film (C60 multilayer film) on the surface of a conductive substrate by a recording stylus (conductive probe), for controlling a degree of polymerization, and for forming a plurality of recesses with different depth corresponding to the degree of polymerization on the surface of the fullerene molecule multilayer film to record information; means for applying a positive voltage with predetermined strength to the plurality of recesses with different depth by the recording stylus (conductive probe), for depolymerizing the polymerized fullerene molecules, and for restoring the plurality of recesses with different depth on the surface of the fullerene molecule multilayer film to delete the recorded information; and means for detecting a change in currents of the plurality of recesses with different depth and a site where the recesses are not formed by a reading stylus (conductive probe) to read the recorded information.
