[Also in Group XXXII] A spring for use in the stock feed-tube 8, Fig. 2, of an automatic screw-machine &c. comprises an intermediate portion 14 to engage a stock-bar 10, the intermediate portion terminating in diverging inclined parts which finally extend parallel to the intermediate portion. A number of springs are arranged in recesses 11 in the feed-tube, and the cross-section of the intermediate part may be curved, Fig. 4, to engage round stock, or may be flat, Fig. 7, to engage the flat sides of square, hexagonal, &c., stock-bars. The springs are secured as described in Specification 784,494. The springs may be plated with hard and wear-resistant materials. |
