<PICT:0980690/C6-C7/1> <PICT:0980690/C6-C7/2> In a method for equalizing the distribution of cathodic protection current applied to a metal structure buried or partly buried in or resting on the ground at least some of the earth adjacent to said structure is replaced by a solid material having a greater electrical conductivity than said earth. As shown in Fig. 1, a cylindrical reservoir which is buried in an embankment is cathodically protected by current from a ring-shaped, concentrically disposed anode 5 connected to a battery 4. An electrically conductive layer 8 buried beneath the reservoir directs current towards the floor 1 thereof, said layer consisting of a bed of clay or of salted coke reinforced with steel members. In a modification the anode is connected to the layer 8 or may be dispensed with, the battery then being directly connected with the layer. As shown in Fig. 2, only the lower half of the reservoir is buried. In this embodiment the reservoir is entirely enveloped in a layer of salted coke, clay or coke concrete forming the anode to which the positive pole of the battery 12 is directly connected. |
