PURPOSE: A caller ID(Identification) service providing method and a system are provided to transmit multimedia contents to a receiving terminal as caller ID information. CONSTITUTION: A mobile communications switching equipment(220) checks if a transmitting terminal is signed up for a multimedia caller ID service. If the transmitting terminal is signed up for the multimedia caller ID service, the mobile communications switching equipment transmits a call connection request message, inserted with caller ID contents, to a receiving terminal. An intelligent network equipment(260) receives the call connection request message, transmitted from the transmitting terminal, from the mobile communications switching equipment. The intelligent network equipment requests and receives the caller ID contents, registered by a subscriber of the originating terminal, from a contents server. The intelligent network equipment inserts the caller ID contents into the call connection request message.
