The present invention relates to a dual orientation connector including a connector tap having first and second principal surfaces facing each other and a plurality of electrical contacts carried by the connecter tap. The plurality of contacts include a first external contact set formed in a first principal side surface and a second external contact set formed in a second principal side surface. Each individual contact in a plurality of first contacts is electrically connected to a corresponding contact in a plurality of second contacts within the tap or the body. In some embodiments, the plurality of first and second contacts directly facing each other may be connected together. In other embodiments, contacts in the plurality of first and second contacts that are in diagonal relation with each other are connected together.
