The device (3) has a rotary mechanical part (D) movably mounted in a body of a mechanical fluid meter (1) to be set in a motion by a flow of fluid. A noise measurement unit (M) measures noise produced in the meter by the flow of fluid and the mechanical part. A noise analysis unit (5) estimates whether a counter drift or counter blocking of the meter is carried out. A microphone is placed upstream to or downstream from the meter or integrated into a non-return valve that is near to the meter. The microphone is integrated into the meter body. The rotary mechanical part is designed as a turbine, volumetric piston and counting wheel. An independent claim is also included for a mechanical fluid meter.
