A brake booster used in a vehicle brake system comprises: a braking force transmission element, constructed to be capable of moving axially to transmit a pedal-caused braking force to a brake master cylinder of a vehicle; a boost transmission element, constructed to be capable of moving axially to transmit a braking boost to the brake master cylinder; a first rotation sensor (80), kinematically coupled to the braking force transmission element by a motion conversion mechanism applicable to converting a translational motion to a rotary motion, and used to detect an axial position of the braking force transmission element; and a second rotation sensor, kinematically coupled to the boost transmission element, and used to detect an axial position of the boost transmission element. Generation of the braking boost is controlled on the basis of detection results of the first and second rotation sensors. The brake booster can accurately detect motions of the braking force transmission element and the boost transmission element, so that the action of the brake booster is accurately controlled. |
