PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vehicle mutual position detection apparatus configured to detect lateral mutual position of a preceding vehicle and a following vehicle even if a wide-directivity sound wave or electromagnetic wave is used.SOLUTION: A vehicle mutual position detection apparatus to be applied to a travel system which causes a preceding truck 50 and a truck 60 following the truck 50 to travel includes: ultrasonic sensors 11, 12 arranged at lateral both ends on at least one of a rear face of the truck 50 and a front face of the truck 60 at the same height, to transmit a transmission wave forward from the installation position and receive a reflection wave thereof; and an arithmetic unit which detects a lateral displacement direction between the truck 50 and the truck 60 on the basis of a difference in intensity of the reflection wave received by the ultrasonic sensors 11, 12.
