The method involves reading measured values of sensor during test excitation period by a computing unit, after determining position change of sensor caused by pre-actuation of adjusting elements. An ideal value of sensor is stored in processing unit and is displayed by actuation of adjusting elements during execution of predefined test excitation. A check is made by comparing ideal value with the value measured during the test excitation, so that a correction value is determined and the value assigned to the sensor is stored. An independent claim is included for a device for testing inertial sensor mounted in motor vehicle.
