A hook pod for attachment to a longline and for releasably retaining a hook. The hook pod comprises a body 2 and a cover 3 movable relative to one another from a closed configuration (fig 1) to an open configuration. In the closed configuration the body and cover are positioned to form a cavity therebetween. The cavity is dimensioned to retain a portion of the hook therein and prevent access to the hook portion. In the open configuration the body and cover are positioned such that the hook is released from the cavity. The body and cover may be pivotally attached to one another and may be biased into the closed position using piston or diaphragm means. The pod may be provided with locking means to lock the pod in the closed configuration. When suspended in water the buildup of pressure causes the pod to move from the closed to the open position and may cause a light to be activated. |
