PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce failures generated by contact of roll paper with the bottom surface of a roll paper housing unit.SOLUTION: A medium handling device includes a roll paper housing unit 12 in which a roll paper 101 whose outer peripheral surface is formed as a magnetic surface 106 on which magnetic information is written. The roll paper housing unit includes: a roll journaling unit 41 which rotatably journals the roll paper. In a bottom 49 of the roll paper housing unit, a contact portion 60 is provided which partially makes contact with the outer peripheral surface of the outermost peripheral portion drooping from a roll portion of the roll paper journaled by the roll journaling unit.
