The present invention provides a device to quench coke, and the device comprises: a cooling gas supply unit which provides a cooling chamber with a cooling gas which contains carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide; a cooling chamber which cools red hot coke using the cooling gas and includes a coke discharging unit to discharge the cooled coke; a cooling gas discharging unit which discharges the cooling gas which contains collected sensible heat of the red hot coke to the outside of the cooling chamber; and a carbon monoxide concentration measuring unit which is connected with the cooling gas discharging unit and adjusts a discharge by measuring the concentration of the carbon monoxide in the cooling gas. The present invention also provides a method to quench coke, and comprises: a coke cooling step of cooling red hot coke by providing a cooling gas with a gas that contains carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide; a cooling gas circulating step of circulating the cooling gas which contains collected sensible heat of the red coke; and a cooling gas discharging step of adjusting the discharge of the cooling gas by measuring the concentration of the carbon monoxide in the cooling gas of the cooling gas circulating step. By the means of the device and the method to quench coke of the present invention, coke is cooled and a converter gas, which is a transient gas generated during iron making, is recycled, so that high concentration carbon monoxide can be obtained. The high concentration carbon monoxide can be used as a fuel gas to make iron or as a raw material to reduce iron ore. The high concentration carbon monoxide can also be used as a raw material to synthesize petrochemicals after being refined to have a high level of purity. |
