A magnesium alloy comprises magnesium, zinc, and rare-earth metal. The magnesium alloy does not contain lanthanides, and the amount of rare-earth metal contained in the magnesium alloy is 0.1-2 wt.%. Independent claims are included for the following: (1) work sample; and (2) manufacture of magnesium alloy.
