The device has a transmission section (1), a receiving section (2) and a controlling and/or tapping unit (7) for supplying an excitation signal to an eddy current sensor (WS). A bypass section (3) and a switching element (4) are formed such that the transmission section is directly connected with the receiving section in an electrically conducting manner or the transmission and receiving sections are connected with a signal input (5) and a signal output (6) of the eddy current sensor, respectively in an electrically conducting manner during switching of the switching element. An independent claim is also included for a method for testing eddy current.
