The spirometer has a measuring device (12) placed in a tube (10) for measurement of air flow in the tube. The tube is rigidly coupled to an inclination sensor (20) for determining inclination angle (alpha1) of the tube relative to a transverse plane (28). A hand grip (18) is rigidly coupled to the pipe, and the inclination sensor is arranged in the hand grip. An evaluation unit e.g. microprocessor, is coupled to the hand grip for evaluating and/or storage of the inclination angle of the tube as a function of the air flow and/or time. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a spirometer.
