In order to obtain a ballast water treatment device capable of reliably and efficiently performing treatment for rendering ballast water harmless, a ballast water treatment device is provided with, in a ballast water treatment line (1), a pump (2) for pumping and pressure-feeding water to be treated, a filter (3) for filtering the pumped water to be treated, an ultraviolet reactor (4) for irradiating the filtered water to be treated with ultraviolet rays, a ballast tank (5) for storing treated water obtained by treatment with the irradiation with ultraviolet rays, and an overboard discharge means (6) for discharging the pumped water to be treated overboard without passing the pumped water to be treated through the filter (3) and the ultraviolet reactor (4), and is configured to discharge the water to be treated overboard by the overboard discharge means (6) for a predetermined time continuously from the start of the pumping of the water to be treated, stop the overboard discharge by the overboard discharge means (6) at a point in time when the predetermined time has passed, and pour, into the ballast tank (5), the treated water obtained by treating the water to be treated by the filtering by the filter (3) and the irradiation with ultraviolet rays by the ultraviolet reactor (4). |
