SURGICAL STAPLER Abstract A surgical fastener applying apparatus (10) comprising a cartridge section (12) having a cartridge (19) containing a plurality of fasteners (130), an anvil section (14) having an anvil for receiving the fasteners (130) when advanced from the cartridge (19), the cartridge (12) and anvil sections (14) clamping tissue therebetween. The first and second cam members (11 Oa, 11 Ob) are movable within the cartridge section (12) to fire the fasteners (130). A cam member supporting member (15) fixed within the cartridge section (12) has an upper surface on which the cam members are slidable.
