This liquid crystal composition has negative dielectric anisotropy, and is characterized by including: a dielectrically neutral component (B) which has a dielectric anisotropy greater than -2 but less than +2, and which includes at least one from among the compounds represented by formulae (1.1) and (1.2); and a dielectrically negative component (A) which has a dielectric anisotropy of -2 or less, and which includes at least one from among the compounds represented by formulae (2.1) and (2.2).
