Fabrics are dry-cleaned and given residual bacteriostatic properties by means of a composition comprising (a) hydrogen peroxide, preferably of 100 vol. strength, and (b) a tert.-amine or quaternary ammonium compound either of which contain at least one methyl group and at least one C10-20-alkyl group, dispersed in (c) a dry-cleaning solvent, suitably a petroleum fraction such as white spirit or a chlorinated hydrocarbon such as perchlorethylene. Ingredient (b) should be water soluble, and may if a quaternary ammonium compound, contain in addition to the methyl and C10-20-alkyl group, one or two C1-5-alkyl groups; the preferred compound of this type is however dimethyldistearylammonium chloride. A little ammonia ia generally also included in the composition. |
