[Also in Group XVII] A discharge collecting bag which is flat and rectangular has three edges closed by pressure seals, a fourth edge being seamless, and a tubular slot open at both ends extending along the sealed edge opposite the seamless edge. The bag is formed from synthetic plastic tubing 10 extended by a machine 12 and flattened between rollers 14, 15. A marker spot 24, cutting guide lines 50, 52 and information 22 are printed on the tubing at spaced intervals by a roller 20. Opposite sides of the flattened tubing are then joined by a longitudinal pressure seal 30, which is made by a roller 32, and pairs of transverse line seals 46, 48, which are made at spaced intervals by a reciprocating bar 40. The longitudinal seal divides the flattened tubing into a small tube portion 34 and a larger tube portion 36 and the transverse seals extend across the larger tube portion only. The transverse seals are made as the marker spot passes through a light beam 31. The tubing is cut by a knife 43 midway between the seals of each pair of transverse seals to form individual bags each having a tubular open-ended slot 34a, formed by the small tube portion, and a closed compartment 36a formed from the larger tube portion and defined by line seals 30, 46, 48 and a seamless edge 16. In use a corner of the bag is cut off along a guide line and a drainage tube is inserted in the opening so formed, the length of the guide line chosen being such that when the drainage tube is upright in the bag the opening is occluded. The tubular slot is used for suspension purposes. |
