911,144. Golf clubs. WOOLLEY MANUFACTURING CO. April 4, 1961, No. 11986/61. Class 132 (2). A golf club comprises a shaft with a tubular metal core 16 bonded to a surrounding resin impregnated woven glass fibre fabric 18 in which approximately half of the fibres are perpendicular to the other half, the core 16 extending beyond at least one end of the fabric 18 and into the club head 13 and grip 12 which are both in engagement with the ends of the fabric. Ornamental sleeves 23 and 29 smooth out the joints between the grip and head and shaft, the head being secured to the shaft by a pin 27 and a plug 20 being inserted into the open end of the core and being covered by an end button 21. Although the core 16 may be shaped, e.g. tapered, it is preferable for it to be uniform and the shaping of the shaft achieved by shaping the fabric bonded to the core, e.g. by using a trapezium-shaped piece of fabric. Fine adjustment in balance may be achieved by allowing the fabric to extend by various amounts into a counter-bore in the head or grip. Specification 774,359 is referred to.
|
