The connector (1) has a contact element (15) electrically contacted with an electrical lead (13c) of a cable (13). Allocation shell elements (7a, 7b) are fastened together with a shell around a cable final device (5) at two regions (17a, 17b). The shell elements comprise engagement units (19) that are designed in complementary engagement units (21) of the cable final device. A connector housing (3) is provided with a cable final device accommodation (23) into which the cable final device is inserted along an insertion direction (E). An independent claim is also included for a method for assembling a connector.
