There is disclosed an electronic assembly comprising a laser 11 mounted on a ceramic carrier 12 and configured to operate within a predetermined range of temperatures. A temperature sensor, i.e. a thermistor 15, is thermally coupled to the device for monitoring the temperature of the device. A heater 14 is located in or on the carrier proximate to the electronic device for heating the electronic device. A control system is operatively connected to the temperature sensor and the heater so as to prevent the temperature of the device, when in use, dropping below the predetermined range of temperatures. Optionally, the assembly also comprises a thermoelectric cooler (TEC) 34 which allows the laser to be both heated and cooled. The assembly may also comprise a second thermistor remote from the laser to assist in deciding the best thermal management for the laser. |
