A plate assembly 28 for the bung opening in the side wall of a container, e.g. a singlewalled barrel, comprises a sleeve 32, an inner plate 30, an outer plate 36 welded both to the sleeve 32 and the inner plate 30, and a metal casting 34 of aluminium or aluminium alloy, supporting the sleeve 32. The barrel may be stamped out from stainless steel in three portions 12, 14, 16 which are subsequently fusion welded at 18.</p> |
