PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition for a tread capable of improving low fuel consumption properties, wet grip performance and abrasion resistance in a good balance, and to provide a pneumatic tire using the same.SOLUTION: The invention relates to a rubber composition for a tread containing a rubber component, silica and a resin having the softening point of 60 to 120°C, and having the content of a conjugated diene polymer having a monomer unit based on a compound represented by the formula, and a monomer unit based on a radical polymerizable unsaturated compound having a substituted amino group or a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic group of 5 mass% or more in 100 mass% of the rubber component, and the content of the silica of 5 to 150 pts.mass and the content of the resin of 1 to 30 pts.mass based on 100 pts.mass of the rubber component.
