PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an internal combustion engine capable of improving rigidity of a power plant.SOLUTION: In an engine (internal combustion engine) 100, a fastening region 120d for fastening a crank case 12 and an oil pan 13 is provided on the crank case 12 to surround an opening 12b. A balance shaft housing 33 is arranged on the crank case 12 to cover the opening 12b, and four housing side fastening parts 12a for fastening the crank case 12 and the balance shaft housing 33 are provided. Among the four housing side fastening parts 12a, the fastening part 12a on a side on which a timing chain 25 in an axial direction is arranged (on a side in an arrow Y1-direction) is arranged inside the fastening region 120d. Among the four housing side fastening parts 12a, the fastening part 12a on a side on which a transmission mechanism in the axial direction is arranged (on a side in an arrow Y2-direction) is arranged outside the fastening region 120d (at a bottomed part 12c). |
