Apparatus for applying sealing clips 61 about the closed neck of a bag comprises a pair of jaws 43, 44 pivotally mounted to a slide 46. The apparatus is so arranged that in the condition of rest, as shown in Fig. 1, the jaws occupy an advanced position, are open, and hold between them a clip 61 ready for application. As soon as the apparatus is brought into action, the jaws close, apply the clip, open, withdraw to take a fresh clip 61a from a stack contained in a charging device 53, Fig. 2 (not shown), and then take up the position of rest. The jaws and slide 46 are operated through links 39 and a rod 26 by a pneumatically operated piston 10. The piston 10 which is spring loaded for return movement by a compression spring 15 comprises a sleeve 20 in which the rod 26 can slide. A second compression spring 24 biases the rod 26 away from the piston sleeve 20. The rod 26 is provided with a lever 29 adapted to latch on to the sleeve 20 for the return stroke of the piston, and the lever 29 is released by an abutment 33 engaging the tail portion 36 of the lever when the piston has been returned. Sealing clip.-The limbs of the clip terminate in bevelled portions 62, 63 that cross one another when closed. |
