A structural building unit comprises a rectangular concrete slab constituting a top chord 1 and deck and having exposed top and bottom surfaces and free terminating side and end edges, a metal web comprising a bar 4 extending longitudinally of the slab and having a plurality of sections 7 extending angularly from the bottom surface of the slab, each bar section 7 having an upper joint with one of the adjacent bar sections embedded in the slab and a lower joint with the other adjacent bar section 7 exteriorly of the slab, a metal bottom chord 5 fixed to the lower joints of the bar sections, and a plurality of longitudinallyspaced metal rods 3 extending transversely of the slab and embedded therein, each rod 3 being disposed between a pair of adjacent bar sections having an embedded joint and held in engagement with such joints solely by the concrete of the slab. One, or two parallel stems, comprised by a web 4 and bottom chord 5, may be provided. The slab may also contain wire mesh reinforcement or longitudinal metal rods.
