When switching back to normal travel from coasting in which the engine has been disengaged from the wheels, this vehicle travel control device makes it less likely to dissatisfy the user by responsiveness before generation of a desired drive force and by the shock when coupling the engine and the wheels. By changing, on the basis of the state of the engine (14) during coasting, the gear ratio e of an automatic transmission (16) when switching back to normal travel, in free-run coasting, this vehicle travel control device prioritizes increasing the responsiveness until generation of a desired drive force and switches back to normal travel at a low vehicle speed gear ratio; in neutral coasting, this vehicle travel control device prioritizes suppression of shock when coupling the engine (14) and the wheels (20) (for example, engagement shock of a clutch (C1)) and switches back to normal travel at a high vehicle speed gear ratio. Therefore, when switching from coasting back to normal travel, it is possible to achieve both shock suppression and improved responsiveness. |
