PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a control system for an internal combustion engine, configured to detect S poisoning of a sensor element early.SOLUTION: A control system of an internal combustion engine is formed by arranging a limiting current type oxygen sensor in an exhaust passage. The control system is configured to perform at a predetermined timing, S poisoning determination where a relatively low voltage and a relatively high voltage are applied to a sensor element of the limiting current type oxygen sensor, to measure output currents, and it is determined whether the sensor element has been sulfur(S)-poisoned or not on the basis of presence or magnitude of a difference between the output currents. |
