Disclosed are a password-based authentication method, and an apparatus for performing same. The password-based authentication method according to one embodiment of the present invention, includes the steps of: generating an ID-based secret key (K) using a terminal user ID and key generating factor that is exchanged with a server; the terminal encrypting a user's password using a symmetric key encryption algorithm which uses the generated secret key (K) as a symmetric key, and requesting the authentication of the user by transmitting the encrypted password to the server; and the terminal receiving a response to the authentication request from the server.
