<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an object identification apparatus that is able to reduce processing load in image processing for identifying, from an input image, an identification object of different distance from an imaging apparatus.SOLUTION: An object identification unit forms a basic image group composed of a plurality of basic images obtained by enlarging or reducing a picked-up image at different magnifications (S120). Then, an amount of characteristic for each basic unit cell, which is a rectangular area predetermined for each basic image, is calculated (S130, S140). Subsequently, an amount of characteristic corresponding an m-order reduction image is calculated, the m-order reduction image being obtained by sequentially reducing the basic image at the same magnification 1/r (r is an integer of 2 or greater), determined in advance, an m-order (m is a positive integer) number of times. The basic image is divided for each rectangular area composed of r×rnumber of basic unit cells, the average value of the characteristics of the basic unit cells composing separate areas (m-order basic areas) is calculated, and the calculated amounts of characteristics are used as amounts of characteristics of areas (m-order reduced unit cells) on an m-order reduced image corresponding to the m-order reference area (S150).</p> |
