<p>Provided is a vehicle travel control device that improves both the fuel economy effect of coasting and the re-acceleration response when switching back from coasting to normal travel. The fuel pressure (Pcom) of an engine (12) is higher when coasting in neutral than when coasting with cylinders stopped. Fuel can thus be injected at a high fuel pressure (Pcom) when switching back from coasting in neutral to normal travel, making it possible to increase the engine speed (Ne) quickly. As such, a clutch (C1) that connects and disconnects a power-transmission pathway between the engine (12) and wheels (20) can be synchronized and engaged quickly, resulting in good re-acceleration response. Also, since the fuel pressure (Pcom) of the engine (12) is lower when coasting with the cylinders stopped than when coasting in neutral, a fuel pump (26) has to do less work when coasting with the cylinders stopped, thus extending the coasting distance and making it possible to increase the fuel economy effect of coasting.</p> |
