A locking washer comprises a helical body 1 (Fig. 1) on the outer periphery 2 of which overlapping teeth 4 are formed which are inclined to the body, an end tooth being on each end of the body 1, each end tooth having a non-radial biting edge, and being inclined to the body 1 so as to project in opposite directions and in the sense of the helix. In plan, lines 9 and 10 representing the non-radial biting edges intersect at points intermediate the width of the body. In a modification the lines 9 and 10 intersect on the outer periphery of the body 1. In another form (Fig. 4) the ends 18 and 19 of the body 1 overlap along the outer periphery 3. Fig. 6 shows a form where the projecting height of each end tooth 28, 29, of greater thickness than the body 1, above the adjacent body surface is greater than that of the peripheral teeth 4. The end teeth may be triangular.
